Dakshineshwar Kalimandir founded by Queen Rasmani on the banks of river Ganga in Hooghly district of West Bengal- a Bengali pilgrimage site. Sri Sri Kalimata Mahima Mandir was built near the river Tapti in the city of Surat in Gujarat on the model of Kali Mandir of Dakshineshwar. About 50 years ago many people from West Bengal came to Surat in Gujarat to work in gold industry in search of livelihood. At that time some goldsmiths got together and started Kali Puja. Then gradually, with the combined efforts of many goldsmiths, a site was purchased along Dumas Road at Piplod, Surat, Gujarat for the purpose of setting up a temple. Gradually, with the cooperation and hard work of many Bengali goldsmiths, today’s Sri Sri Kalimata Mahima Mandir was built. Today Kalimata Mahima Temple is one of the tourist attractions not only in Surat but also in entire Gujarat. The construction of this Kalimandir managed by the Sri Sri Kalimata Public Charitable Trust has left many kindred souls today but their dreams are being fulfilled by the committee of the trust. Today Surat Kali Bari is under constructed with various facilities is being built in the temple premises. Kalimata Mahima Mandir has become a meeting place for Bengalis in Surat. Let us all participate in the puja of this temple and come forward to work hand in hand for the overall development of the temple. This Kali Mandir is the pride of all the Bengali community of Surat as well as the Bengali jewelery community. Let’s come to this holy Kali temple of Bengalis, young and old, and receive the blessings of mother.
